How to recover old page version that was deleted?

An older version of a Confluence page was accidentally deleted minutes ago. According to Rovo, Atlassian support and/or community may be able to help me recover the deleted version from the backend, especially since it was deleted only minutes ago. This should be covered under our Confluence Cloud subscription — no extra fee, is it?

Thanks!

Hi @Rudolf Arada

Atlassian Support https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/ probably can do it.

We, in the community, cannot - this is a public forum and we cannot access your site.

Pro tip: When you reach out to Support (or when your admin does...), after filling in the necessities and passing through the AI gatekeeper, ensure to scroll all the way down the page - you should see the option to open a chat with a live person.

Thanks for the link Kris. Initially Rovo directed me to their support pages only to be responded by AI that suggested to reach-out to the community :)

@Rudolf Arada Do you mean that the page was deleted and is in your Trash? Or that the page was in your Trash and it was deleted (purged) from there?

If it's in the Trash, a space admin can restore it—see https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/delete-restore-or-purge-a-page/

If it was purged from the Trash, someone really wanted to remove the page.

To permanently get rid of an item, you need to purge it from the trash. That'll mean the item, and all its versions and attachments, are gone for good.

There is no recovery in this case.

No Barbara, its the older version of a Confluence page that has been deleted and no longer listed in the version history pane.

Confluence Cloud does not provide a self-service way to restore an individual deleted page version, Atlassian Support may be able to advise whether recovery is possible from the backend, depending on the circumstances and data retention policies.

I would encourage opening a support case with Atlassian.

And that's a challenge, as per my responses across this chat, I cannot get to a page where I can interact with a human being, not AI :(

Hi @Rudolf Arada

Deleted page versions can't be recovered, this is a permanent action.

Only deleted content like, pages or attachments can be recovered from the space trash.

See this KB page, where this is listed; delete-restore-or-purge-a-page

Yes, and maybe... according to Rovo and some docs in those pages I viewed, Atlassian support (if I can contact them directly) will be able to help me recover the deleted version from the backend which is covered under our Confluence Cloud subscription.

Hi @Rudolf Arada

There is no option to restore a page version if deleted.

This is mentioned in the link I shared, also not from the backend.

IF you want to raise a support issue, you need to be a Confluence admin or higher admin rile in Cloud and not on a free subscription

Yes, my very first response from Rovo and then again from Atlassian support AI page. And in my previous response in this chat, when I clicked on the "Submit a support request" button, I got these options - back to square 1

Getting help from the Atlassian Community

Ask questions or browse discussions to find the information you need. Support staff and developers from Atlassian check in regularly to help answer tricky or highly technical questions.

Hi @Rudolf Arada

On a Free subscription you don't have support privileges, stated in guidelines on free instances.

So you can't raise support requests, and there is no need to raise one, as a deleted version of a page is definitely deleted and can't be restored.

On the KB is shared in my initial reply:

"Deleting a draft, unpublished changes, or a page version?

Unlike deleting a published page, deleting any of these is permanent and they can't be restored."

Hello @Rudolf Arada

Maybe yes, but here Community cannot help. We can´t inspect backend.👀

Ask your Confluence/site admin to open a support ticket with Atlassian and include the page URL, page ID, deleted version number, deletion time, and user who deleted it.

Theoretically, if your admin creates regular backups, it may be possible to restore it from one of those backups.

Here direct link to Support:

Yes, been through that page as well, took me to the page Kris mentioned, then to AI-monitored page: https://support.atlassian.com/contact#

I followed the options that also asked me to "contact Atlassian Support by creating a Technical Issues and Bugs ticket", but when I clicked on the "Submit a support request" button, I got these options;

@Rudolf Arada

Have your Admin open Support Ticket.

If you are not an admin, that's probably a Blocker.

I wanted to know where to go to recover an existing Confluence page version that was deleted (no longer in the history list), not a deleted page.

Hoping an Atlassian support will get back to me soon.
