How to link Excel documents in Confluence?

When I create a  link to my page in Confluence, and then click on it, it is converted to a Word document.  how do I prevent that?

Hi,

could you clarify on "my page". In the title you refer to Excel. I don't get any information what a link has to do with Excel and/or Word.

Are you using cloud or server Confluence?

In Confluence, there are 'Spaces' and 'Pages'  When I go to a 'Page' where I have editing rights, I can link an excel or any document.  When I save it as a link, and then open it, it is converted to a Word document.
