I am currently using Jira Service Desk on Mac and I am trying to figure out how to add Confluence to it. I downloaded the Confluence file and made my home directory but it is not showing up in my Jira Dashboard. Any advice would be great.

Welcome to the community!

Despite a random conversation about "wiki for Jira" with one of the Jira product managers a few years ago, Confluence is not an application for Jira.  It is its own stand-alone service, and hence needs to be installed and run separately from Jira.

I suspect your download is probably a tar.gz which can be unpacked and used to run the installation, in a similar way to the way you installed Jira.
