Hi Community,

I am preparing for the Confluence-220 cloud administration Exam. I was exploring the concept  about excerpt macros. As i have attached the below  screenshot i am not understanding how hide excerpt macro option works inside excerpt place holder. Please let me know your suggestion on this!!.Screenshot 2026-07-29 111546.png

Hi @Sagar G M, welcome to the community. That checkbox only affects the page the macro is on. Atlassian's parameter table for the excerpt macro is explicit about it: Hide excerpt on this page controls whether the content in the placeholder is displayed on that page, and it does not affect any pages or docs where the content is reused. Default is false.

So hiding is a source-page display setting, not a switch that turns the excerpt off. With it ticked the way you have it, another page can still reference test excerpt through the Excerpt Include macro and render the content normally. That is the usual reason to tick it, when the source page is only there to hold snippets.

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the clear explanation. That makes perfect sense now. I understand that the "Hide excerpt on this page" option only affects the display on the source page and does not prevent the excerpt from being reused through the Excerpt Include macro on other pages. I appreciate you taking the time to clarify this and for pointing me to the parameter details. Thank you again for your help.
