This is a similar feature that exists on the Jira Legacy macro. If the jira work item is to replace Jira Legacy, this feature is very much needed.

The current Work Item Macro doesn't allow this, but I think it would be a valuable feature. It has already been suggested by a user. You can vote for the suggestion to try to increase Atlassian's attention to the suggestion and watch the issue to stay up to date about any progress or updates.
