How do I keep all my information Confidential and not ending up a Feed?

Greg Fox March 19, 2020

I just signed up for Jira and Confluence and started creating my landing page in Confluence for my project.

Now I am seeing that there is a feed that is showing changes that I have made along with changes other people are making on their pages.

Is this really the default behavior? Anything I do in Atlassian has to be Confidential.

How do I secure my info so that no information goes public at all? I can't find a setting that seems to address the release of info to the Feed.

Hello @Greg Fox !

As I understand all changes and updates you apply to content within your site should be confidential. No other user should be able to see or interact with those, is that correct?

If that is the case, I can tell you that users will only see updates on their feed if they have access to such pages.

For example:

  1. I create page A and put no restrictions on it
  2. I create page B and restrict it solely to my user
  3. I update page A
  4. Then, I update page B
  5. Users should be able to see the update I gave to Page A (if they have permissions to access the space in which the page is located)
  6. No one will see the updates I placed in page B, only myself

The behavior I described above happens because page B is restricted to my Confluence user only. The feed is indeed expected behavior, but as I said, only people who have access to the content can see it.

Here you can check more details on permissions and restrictions:

Also, I was able to find a pretty similar thread, here in our Community. Here, take a look:

I hope this shines some light into your path, Greg! Looking forward to your reply.

It turned out that everything I was seeing in the feed was from the System setting up a Sample page. I think that content automatically added by the System shouldn't be thrown in the feed.

If that can't be done, at least the content should be identified as being a sample. In this case the top of the feed was pictures of people and the filenames were their names. I thought these were from other people's pages, when in reality, they were samples. Simply naming these as samples would have avoided the concern.
