How do I get folders I copied form an old laptop to a new laptop to work?

I have an old laptop with a host of files saved on the desktop.

I copied them to a thumb drive and pasted them to the desktop of my laptop, but they don't open on the new laptop.  Why does this happen?

Hi - I understand you moved some files from one computer to another and cannot open them on the new computer. Please let us know which Atlassian product this is related to, or post on a forum that focusses on computer issues.
