How do I add text without having to switch to edit page mode?

I created a table where I want users to input some text without going on edit mode. Is it possible, and if so, how can I implement it?

No, you need to be in edit mode to edit content.

There are a couple of table add-ons which pop their own edits independently of the page - take a look in the marketplace.
