How can I save a macro I've edited?

Bill Legge January 21, 2019

I use a couple of different panel (macros) in my Confluence pages:

  1. To draw reviewers attention to particular queries,
  2. To document reviewers' responses or resolution of those queries.

I have to manage a diverse portfolio of business and technical experts, frequently with short attention spans and an annoying ability to ignore the trickier queries. I know I can copy and paste my panels from one page to another - but surely I should be able to save their attributes so I can insert them?

Hi Bill,

From my understanding, you want to be able to duplicate the settings you put in for a macro on another page without having to re-enter everything?

I have two ideas for this.

  1. You could use the Excerpt Include Macro to include the same snippet on other pages within Confluence without having to re-type everything. This is also useful if you just want to edit a few attributes for all instances of the same snippet. It would be applied to all pages that contain the snippet.
  2. You can use the Source Editor for Confluence Cloud macro. With this, you could copy the source code for the exact macro you want to duplicate, and then manually paste in the code onto the other pages.

Have a look at that and let me know if you have any questions about the proposed solutions.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Bill,

You could also try keeping your commonly-used macros on a page in your personal space for quick reference.  The macro's attributes should be preserved if copied from an editor page into another editor page.

Good luck!

Hi Jared,

That's pretty much what I've been doing. Thanks for the suggestion.
