Hide assign action button on view screen

Once actions are completed, is there any way to hide the items from view please?

    Action items will stay grayed out on your page. If you remove them, they won't be reportable on  your Task Report macro. 

If you are actively reviewing open items, I would suggest making a dashboard page which includes the Task Report macro (which only displays incomplete tasks).

If you display your action items in a table, you can add a status column, then use the Table Filter Macro (paid add-on) to filter completed items.

Thanks for your email and help.  Sorry for late reply but I've been in meetings today.

I will have a try and let you know how I get on.  Basically I was just trying to hide all the closed actions so all the open ones were just listed.
