Having issues restoring 21gb backup

Hacker JFFJ March 17, 2019

I am getting size mismatch errors. I have uploaded as well as verified file ownership. I am able to extract the zip on the host but not through the UI, is there a way to manually move the files to the correct locations from the decompressed zip file? Is there anything else I can do to recovery the site. The system it was running on had a failure and I am recovering to a new host.

Any and all direction is appreciated

Hi there,

When trying to run an import, Confluence should write information to its application log if it encounters something unexpected. Could you copy the relevant lines from your application log and paste them here? If you open the log right after trying an import (and getting a failure message in the GUI), the bottom-most lines in the application log should be related to the error.

You can find the application log in <confluence-home>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log - the confluence home folder is at the same root directory where you've found the export folder (/var/atlassian/... from your notes).

We've got a KB article about troubleshooting some of the common causes of XML backup failures you can check out, but I'm happy to help troubleshoot based on the errors you're seeing in the application log. We'll just need to see what error the application is throwing to start narrowing down the cause of the problem.

Cheers,
Daniel

Im trying to restore a confluence backup that was created with the system tools.

How is that not about confluence?

You had not mentioned what you were doing at all - in your question, there was no mention of any Atlassian system or what you were backing up.

Could you explain which "system tools" you are using?  Atlassian recommend database "system tools" for backups, but there are two types of export/backup also inside Confluence that could be called "system tools" as well.

I am using the internal backup that is provided as I stated in the response above. I am not feeling very confident that you either understand me or are being deliberately obtuse or just dont know. In the system tools provided in the admin console. /var/atlassian/../../backup

I put the system created zip file in the var/atlassian/../../restore directory. I am getting errors that the file size expected is incorrect. I have no issue with unzipping the file manually but I am unable to access any of the attachments in any of the folders. They are all listed as linux executables and if I look at them in a text editor they are all what appear to be Hex at first glance. I have verified the checksum on the files before and after copying to the server so I know the files are correct. If I am unable to use the restore function from the system tools can I get access to the attachments that were in the backup zip so I can manually recreate the site.

Backup & Restore

Back Up Confluence Data

Download of the backup to a custom location is currently disabled for security reasons. See the documentation for instructions on how to change this.

This allows you to export the contents of the database to a zipped XML file. You can import the XML file into earlier Confluence versions from 5.9.1 to 6.14.1, and into compatible later versions. When importing, please refer to the compatibility information in the 'restore' section on this page. More about manually backing up data

Could you explain what this has to do with Confluence?
