Getting an invalid password in Confluence gmail set up with a hashed password

iris blackburn July 23, 2013

I am following the instructions on setting up gmail with confluence, but when I use an encrypted password it does not work.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF51/Setting+Up+a+Mail+Session+for+the+Confluence+Distribution

I have used the plain text password and it worked so it must be something wrong with the encryption.

I currently have the password entered as '{PKCS5S2}encryptedpassword' is this incorrect or am I generating the encryption incorrectly?

I used this for encryption http://pythonhosted.org/passlib/lib/passlib.hash.atlassian_pbkdf2_sha1.html

As far as I know, it's not possible to apply an encrypted password in server.xml for mail JNDI configuration. It only work with plain text. We have an open feature request for this topic that you can track here: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-2146.

I am sorry I could not bring you better news on this topic, however, I encourage you to vote on the feature request mentioned to gain more developer focus on the issue.
