I recently replaced a lot of pdf assets I have on confluence. I also updated the file names in the properties section. The files are showing the correct versions when downloaded but the file names have not changed. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi @Gemma Whiteley ,

This sounds like a common quirk in Confluence Cloud: when you replace a file (e.g. a PDF) using the same file name, the system keeps the original attachment name for versioning purposes — even if you update the title in the properties section or upload a newer version with a different name.

To fully update the file name:

  1. Delete the old attachment first (not just replace it).
  2. Upload the new file from scratch using the new file name.

Only then will Confluence treat it as a new file with the updated name reflected in the UI and downloads.

I hope that helps!

Thank you for taking the time to reply. That is super frustrating but at least now I know what to do going forwards.

Thanks again.
