Extra first-level bullet appears when importing nested bullet lists from Word into Confluence

Issue description

Hi Atlassian Community,

I uploaded/imported several Microsoft Word documents into a Confluence page. The documents contain multilevel bullet lists.

After the import, Confluence adds an extra empty first-level bullet before some nested bullet items. This changes the original list structure and creates unwanted blank bullet points, as shown in the attached screenshot.

Expected result

The bullet hierarchy should be preserved exactly as it appears in the Word document, without adding empty bullets.

Actual result

An additional empty first-level bullet is created to maintain the nested bullet level.

Is there a way to prevent this during import, or to remove the extra bullet without changing the indentation and hierarchy of the nested list?

Environment:

  • Confluence: Cloud
  • Word version: Microsoft 365
  • Import method: pluginlevelissue.jpg

Hi @ani_asatryan

This is something in the markup of the word document.

Is there an extra white-line in the doc or a soft or hard new line?

I detest the MS markup in documents it is never just simple text, there is always underlying code or marukp.
