Excel files aren't rendered anymore

Michael Barton October 8, 2018

Hi,

Since upgrading to Confluence 6.12.X we can't click 'edit document' on excel files anymore, this obviously needs to be done with the new companion.

That's all fine, except the rendered preview of the excel file was something we were dependent on, it was an eligible version, and it could be sought through.

How can we potentially re-enable the old HTML rendition of the page yet maintain the new edit method for the time being?

I've understood the old method will do away, but we still very much love it (and need it).

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Michael Barton

Hi Michael,

had the same problem in our environment. Currently there is no solution, but at least two open issues at Atlassian to give us the Edit button back... I discussed the issue with their product head on the last Atlassian summit.

I did a workaorund by placing a preview images of the excel file in the page. The users click it, get the real preview & have the ability to edit the file. Ugly, two more clicks but only way to do it right now. Luckily we only have three pages with the old Office macro...

Best

Hi, thanks for your response. I was afraid you'd say that, but at the same time i also created a case with Atlassian; after all, we surely can't be the only people suffering from this.

I even went so far as to suggest how they could best go about fixing it, but time will tell what they say. If I think of it, I'll try to share their answer here.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Michael Barton

Hi Micheal,

I opened a call with Atlassian when we found out & one of the issues was created by my support guy... Now there're 4 issues on virtually the same topic... All I need is a "Edit in App" macro where I can chose an attachment that will be edit in their native app when clicking on the macro link...

Well, at least some interest on that topic.

Thx,

JP
