Email Notifications for changes in Blogposts

Hermes April 18, 2019

Hi there,

we updated Confluence Cloud from 5.8 to 6.10 recently. Since than we don't get notifications anymore on changes at blogposts we are watching. It is only about changes, when there is a blogpost created notifications work.

The checkbox "Notify watchers" is checked, of course.

Does anyone of you have an idea what the problem is?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers

Kathrin

Hello there Hermes!

Thanks for reaching out. As I understand, you are having problems with email notifications from Blogposts, is that correct?

I have tried the procedure on my local Confluence instance and it performed as expected. When content was changed in a blog post and the user was watching the content the user was notified via email.

It took a little longer than expected (about 5 minutes). With this in mind, I would like to clarify some points. Here they are:

  1. Are all users affected by this?
  2. Is this affecting newly created blog posts?
  3. Is this affecting already existing blog posts?

Further, by default, Confluence will not send one email per edit within a window of 10 minutes. For example:

  1. Blog post is created
  2. Notification is sent
  3. Edit number one is made
  4. Edit number two is made
  5. One notification is sent for both edits
  6. Edit number three is made
  7. Notification is sent
  8. No new edit is made
  9. One email is sent solely for the third edit

So, if many changes are applied within a short amount of time they will be sent within the same email. You can check more information about this behaviour here:

Email Notifications - Confluence Server

Looking forward to your reply Hermes!

Hi Diego,

thank you so much for your answer!

Well, let's see:

  • Are all users affected by this? Yes, they are. But we are focussing on one special team, they use changes in blogposts as information about progress in some topics
  • Is this affecting newly created blog posts? OR Is this affecting already existing blog posts? Both, when you change them there is no email to anybody (except yourself, when you activated that option), no matter if the blogpost has been created before or after the update to 6.10

We tried it with different blogposts. To give you one example: The Blogpost has been created on monday, the Author changed it on tuesday. I am watching the whole blog and this special blogpost (like some colleagues) - no notification.

But: Thank you for the link! We don't have the "Show changed content" option to choose in our confluence. That might be the problem and I have a starting point now :)
