Dropdown Macro - Selection Won't Persist?

Shrila Senthil November 19, 2025

Hello! I've noticed that this question has been posted in the past, but it doesn't seem like there was a resolution.

I'm using the "Forms - Dropdown List" macro within a table, so that a user can easily make selections across rows. However, I noticed that once I make a selection, if I go into "Edit" mode or refresh the page, it resets to the default value (the first item in your dropdown).

This defeats the purpose of having a dropdown at all, given that selections don't persist beyond the current instance of the page. Unsure if this is a bug or a missing requirement.

2 questions -
1. Is there a way to add a dropdown to a Confluence page, where the selection is saved?

2. Can we add a dropdown with no "label"? (Accompanying text is currently a required field and adds a large space between the text and the dropdown, but in this instance, I JUST want the dropdown to appear in the column).

Appreciate the help!

Hi @Shrila Senthil

Welcome to Atlassian community!

There is no native dropdown macro in Confluence Cloud for users to add to pages for form purposes, as noted in this Jira issue.

Given your specific requirements (dropdowns in table rows with persistent selections and minimal/no labels), I recommend:

  1. First choice: Handy Macros for Confluence - It directly addresses both your pain points (persistence + better label control)

  2. Second choice: Easy Dropdown Menu - Offers more configuration flexibility than the Forms macro

Both of these alternatives are marketplace apps that have been specifically designed to overcome the limitations you're experiencing with the Forms - Dropdown List macro.

Hope this helps!

Thank you both for your responses!

@Dan Breyen No, I don't believe we're on Cloud

@Vishalakshi Narayana Swamy Got it - it would be amazing if this could be added as a native macro down the line.

I'll take a look at the marketplace apps and see if I can make a case to our admin in the meanwhile. Thanks!

@Veronika Chachkova I Stiltsoft Haha, appreciate that! We don't have Confluence Cloud so it doesn't seem like we'll be able to use this for now. But I'll definitely keep it in mind if things change + resources free up in the future :)

Hi @Shrila Senthil I would agree with you, if you make a choice, that choice should persist.  I've requested Atlassian Support to take a look at this question to weigh in on it.  Are you using Confluence Cloud?

As far as your 2nd request, you can always have your System Administrator open a Suggestion on Atlassian's Jira Site. I could see where a blank row would be helpful.
