Hello,
I've just installed JIRA Software on Windows Server 2008 R2 (using MySQL). There are 14GB RAM in total on this host.
I see that tomcat8 process takes 1GB RAM and mysqld process consumes 0.5GB RAM.
Now I'm wondering what if I install Confluence on the same machine. Does it make sense?
Do they need separate tomcat instances? separate mysql instances?
I'm concerned about performance and response time.
and what if I install HipChat on this host too? Does it makes sense? Do you think it's too heavy?
Thank you
On my own setup, I use Linux virtual machines. Easier to backup and to add CPU or RAM as usage grows. My own Confluence setup has 350 users, maybe maximum 200 online at the same time (we have office around the world) and I would say we're lightweight users. The java process uses about 3GB on a normal day, and uses 4 Intel Xeon 2.66 processors for peak usage.
No two situations are alike. Try having both on the same machine (I would use different tomcat instances, but I'm not a system expert) and monitor the performance. This article should help. Make sure to tweak your java heap size until it gets just right.
