Does a group need to have add rights on a space to be able to edit a page?

Does a group need to have add rights on a space to be able to edit a page?

I've got a 100 users groep that can view a space. I gave 1 off these users edit rights on a page using restrictions but the user still cant modify the page.

The modify button appeared when I gave the 100 user groep add rights, but thats not desired cause then they can all create pages.

Yes. To edit a page, you need create.

Add and Edit rights in Confluence are the same thing - there's no use case for granting create without edit (what happens when you make a spelling mistake while creating? Oh, you need edit...), and only weak ones for allowing edit without create (if you can edit, you can make a mess of the page and rearrange the structure anyway, so you might as well have create too)
