Document management apps for whiteboards

Hi

There are many marketplace apps for managing documents like Comala Document Management.

Is there any for managing whiteboards as our main documents are process maps on whiteboards

Hi @Martin Vali,

I think it's unlikely you'll find an app like this on the marketplace, given the currently available Whiteboard API:

Based on these 3 endpoints it looks to me like there is no way for apps to influence or even just access the content of Whiteboards. They can only read metadata, create new empty whiteboards, and delete them.

Therefore it's probably currently not possible to build an app like you're asking for.

Cheers,
Sven

@Sven Melzer thanks for that input - Then I won't expect it to be available any time soon!

Unfortunately, this is the correct answer.

In our app, we are/were trying to lifecycle management for the recently introduced content types like whiteboards, databases, folders, but their REST API support is "almost" zero. Until it changes, you can't expect real app functionality for these. That's the harsh reality.

Hi @Martin Vali ,

It would be interesting to see the concept/design you're looking for šŸ‘€

Confluence isn't really a DMS, but with some workarounds (and, as you've noticed, Marketplace apps) it could be..

If you're missing only a specific feature or subset of options, you could maybe try building app within Studio to see what will come out of it. šŸ¤”

Cheers,
Tobi

Concept is simple - have versioning control over documents that are created on WBs. Meaning that draft ->approval -> publish and then in case of publish the old version will be substituted with new version

Got it. Thanks for clarifying @Martin Vali !

The approvals feature is now in open beta (see announcement here), but it's only for pages, for now.

I've seen some people asking if it will be available for whiteboards and other types at some point, and I can see the product team has noted that.

Now, I'm not saying that I'm sure this would be sufficient enough, but if/once they roll it out, potentially it could cover what you're looking for šŸ¤”

Hi @Martin Vali

Not that I'm aware of but you cold store whiteboards in a separate folder.

What functions do you seek, and what functons does Comala have that you seek for?

Function to have - versioning control over documents that are created on WBs. Meaning that draft ->approval -> publish and then in case of publish the old version will be substituted with new versionimage.png
