Did Space permissions change recently?

I thought that previously  you could not assign a user the ability to only view at the space level. I thought that for space permissions to view = to be able to edit. But now I see that I can set view separately. Did this change or am I mistaken?  Thanks!

View and edit have been separate permissions since Confluence version 1!

The way restrictions cascade down has changed a bit, but not space view/edit
