Customizing the layout of the Confluence dashboard

My Confluence dashboard (the main content to the right of the navigation pane) currently consists of the activity stream - All Updates | Popular on the left, and the "default welcome message" on the right.  I am able to figure out how to edit the default welcome message to customize its content, but I am not able to figure out a way to have the default welcome message content on the left, and the activity stream on the right; and I'd like to give the two sections more equal widths. This seems like a more logical way to present the content. Am I not able to make this change? I've searched Atlassian/Confluence documentation and can't quite pinpoint the right articles to help me.

To address your question, I would like to say that Dashboard Customization is currently something that only Server has:

However, you could set another Site Homepage and then customize that page as needed:
