Confluence reverted to old backup after restart

brandlandgroup April 29, 2019

I have a self hosted confluence instance. I had an old backup on the server from 2017 and did not take any regular backup as my whole server is getting backed up by the hosting company. Recently, Confluence stopped loading, I went and restarted it and it started to load. But when I login the whole content of all spaces are reverted back to the last backup that I got in 2017. I don't know how to switch back to the latest version. I wonder if there is any issue with the connection to the current DB or anything else, but i don't think the data has been cleaned from the DB. I have Jira Core and Service Desk also running on the same instance and they are just fine. It is only the confluence that has been affected. I appreciate any help.

Thank you

There are three possible ways to do this that spring to mind

  • An admin restored from the old backup
  • The server failed and your hosts revered to the old backup
  • For some reason, there was an old copy of the database still active, and someone pointed the connection on your current system back to that

In all cases, your best option is to raise this with your hosting company - even if they didn't change anything, you're going to want to be restoring from the latest backup they took before it went wrong.
