Hello,

when starting up Confluence, the following error occurs:

Unable to start up Confluence. Fatal error during startup sequence: confluence.lifecycle.core:dblowercheck (Check to ensure the database correctly supports lower() for non-ASCII characters)

unable to create new native thread

Self-hosted CentOS 7, MySql 5.7

Thanks and best regards,
B.

Hey Bastian,

Confluence does some checks to make sure everything is set to the right character encodings. MySQL is notorious for having character encoding issues - let's try ensuring everything is set there and see if that clears things up.

  1. Stop Confluence (if it's not already stopped)
  2. Run the queries from the Collation and Character Set KB article for MySQL
  3. Try starting Confluence

We've also got more info about the suggested setup in MySQL itself for some heavy reading. But start off with the collation and let us know how that goes.

Cheers,
Daniel
