Hi there,

We want to upgrade from confluence v5.10 to 6.15. We are using MS SQL server 2014. I was following the upgrade instruction and I am stuck at backup database step for following 2 reasons:

  • We don't have login for SQL server management studio, we are using Windows Authentication - I am in Administrators group - have admin rights.
  • I thought of performing backup by copying mdf and ldf files - but ldf file size is massive - 600GB. We don't care about the log transactions - to shrink the ldf file I have to connect to dB instance first which we are not able to. :(

Could you please help me, how to backup in this situation?

Kind Regards

Harkirat

It was as simple as right clicking and 'Run As Administrator'. :(

For large transaction log file, I first created a compressed backup (compressed from 600GB to 50GB). Then shrunk the log file down to to 200MB.

The log file had full transactions since 2017 - now I have created a weekly recurring backup.

Cheers
