Confluence Mail Server Error

Josh Gamble April 25, 2018

I am trying to setup confluence with my mail server from my host and I keep getting errors. The login information is correct, the server and port information is correct, but I keep getting errors.

I'm afraid that error is almost always that you're giving the wrong credentials.  There could be a language issue (you can rule those out by making sure the username and password do not contain any characters with an ASCII number higher than 127), it could be SSL (that would show up as SSL errors later in the log, below what you've shown) or that the mail server does not like the machine you are logging in from (it's possible to say things like "only let Dave log in if he's using ip range x->y")

Yeah, I'm 100% sure it's not wrong credentials.  I am able to login with the info on my webmail without issue.  The password doesn't contain characters above 127.  It could be SSL, but I am not sure what SSL errors would be causing issue.  What logs would I look into?
