Confluence Import issues

rascyber October 30, 2018

After your space import is completed, you can either import another space or, after you're done importing all your spaces, check for broken JIRA macros.

There was an error during import. Please see our guide to raising a bug report.

Hi there,

I understand you're having issues with a space import.

Can you let us know what's happening in your Confluence logs? This will help to explain what is failing.

It will also be useful for us to know what version the Space Export was created from and where you're trying to import it.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Sternly,

You can have a look at this article for instructions on backing up and restoring Confluence Server:

If you're on Confluence Cloud, you'll want to look at this:

Migrating a Confluence site to Confluence Cloud

The best way to move a Confluence Server instance is to use the Cloud Migration Assistant for Confluence.

If you need to move a Confluence Cloud site or have other considerations, see Migrating a Confluence Cloud site to an existing Cloud site.

I hope that helps you but if you need any further specific instructions just let us know what version of Confluence you're migrating to and from.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Shannon

None of the links you shared guide on restoring cloud confluence from the backup made with backup manager on the cloud.

I get the error because the only option I have is import spaces.

Hence I want clarity on whether the confluence cloud backup manager saves all spaces/settings/configuration/attachments that can be restored at once.

Perhaps share guide to restore confluence cloud lets say I'm migrating a backup from one cloud confluence account to the other.

Thank you

Good morning,

Thank you for confirming your migration path. Understood you are restoring data from Cloud to Cloud.

Can you tell me, does your destination instance have Jira on it? This may be why you're not seeing the option to import the full site backup.

Have a look at this article regarding migrating from Cloud to Cloud:

When you migrate both Jira & Confluence, you need to migrate Jira as a full site backup/import and then migrate Confluence spaces one by one.
Confluence full site restore is not available if you are migrating Jira and Confluence into a single subscription.

If your original spaces are not available to export individually, you have two options:

  1. Deactivate Jira in your billing, which will allow you to restore your Confluence site backup. Once you restore your Confluence data, you can add Jira again to your Cloud account.
    • IMPORTANT: If your Jira instance has existing data, your Jira data will be deleted. If you have anything you need to save in Jira, then I would not recommend this method.
  2. You can restore your Confluence Cloud backup to a Confluence Server evaluation instance, and export the spaces individually that way:

If you have any problems with this at all, please let me know and I can raise a support ticket for you and arrange for a Cloud engineer to have a look at your instance directly and help walk you through it.

Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions.

Regards,

Shannon
