Confluence Cloud backup & restore capabilities

Good morning,

I am setting up Atlassian Cloud for my organization. I have been documenting and testing the backup and restore capabilities of Jira Software, Servicedesk and Confluence. The capabilities of Jira is mediocre at best in our opinion. We will probably look at some 3rd party app for that. Do you guys maybe have good advice for us?

The real question is actually about confluence. When testing the backup and restore capabilities I came to the conclusion that i can make (and automate) backups, but there is no way to restore them. At least, i am not able to restore them in a site which is having Jira Software in the suite. I am still astonished about that.

So, how can i save backups locally that i can actually restore to the same site?

You see, we do require local backups. This is an mandatory capability we need to have.

There are no apps for backing these systems up "locally".

You can, once every 48 hours, ask them to export everything to a backup file.  That would be one for all the Jira applications and a second for Confluence.  A lot of people script that.

To restore them, you use "restore backup" on a Cloud system and feed it the files you downloaded, or the same on a new empty Server installation.  In both cases, the import will overwrite the data that is in the target system.

I have the backup manager automated via jira automation. But we are also looking into Skyvia for jira, which is a app for backup.

Also I am aware about how to restore Jira, but not Confluence. Which is the main problem. There is not a restore option if you have Jira Software in your suite, as far as i am aware. The backup functionality only seems to be there to facilitate a migration. Citation from the Confluence backup manager page:

"Backup manager

The backup manager lets you create a backup of all your Confluence Cloud data that you can then import into other Confluence sites."

"Restoring a Confluence Cloud backup

You may also be able to use this backup to restore your data into this, or another Confluence Cloud site.

There are some limitations, so see the Site Import page for more info."

Citation from site import page:

"Import from Confluence Cloud

If your Atlassian Cloud site has both Confluence and Jira, site import is not available. To import an entire Confluence site, you'll need to import the spaces one at a time. To import an entire Confluence site, you'll need to import the spaces one at a time."

I already tried to use my backup file for importing spaces. That does not work. So i do need to make an export of every space if i am correct. Can I automate the export procedure aswell, without me changing the automation every time a space gets added?
