Confluence 5.3.1 and External database SQL Server 2008 R2

I am using Conflence 5.3.1 ( Evaluataion License) on windows 7

I am trying to connect confluence to an external database ( MSSQL Server 2008 R2)

During the setup wizard, I did not get any option to connect to an external database.

In the evaluation confluence, is it possible to connect to an external database

( MSSQL Server 2008 R2) . If possible, could you please give me any link to relevant documentaion.
