Changing Confluence Base URL issue

I'm trying to change the base URL on confluence but from my ip address to the domain name of the server. After making the base URL change and restarting confluence the server the webpage gives a HTTP STATUS 404 error. Is there something else I'm missing?

@Steve Watts not sure if this helps, but we've just changed base URL and the stumbling block we had was in the server.xml file, where our context path was incorrect.

FYI worth noting that some older Confluence versions get issues with links on pages becoming self-recurring after base URL change (we're on 6.2.3, and had this). Details an workaround are on the JIRA for the bug
