Changed Confluence Server url - Can't connect to localhost

ALOM IT Support April 16, 2019

Hello,

We upgraded our Jira core to 8.1 and decided to install confluence. It successfully installed but when I changed the server url to kb.mycompany.int I cannot login to localhost anymore.

I feel like its quick fix. Do I need to alter my server.xml config file too? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello there!

You should be able to still use http://localhost:8090 (or other port being used by Connie) even after changing the Base URL.

I changed my local instance to the one you sent us:

http://kb.mycompany.int

After that, I am still able to access Confluence from within the server itself using http://localhost:8090.

For you to access Confluence via localhost you need to access it through the server that is hosting Confluence itself.

Further, could you clarify some points for us:

  1. Are you able to access Confluence via the new URL?
  2. Are you trying to access Confluence via localhost from within the server itself?
  3. Did you follow our docs here at Configuring the server Base URL?
  4. Do you have a proxy in your environment?
  5. If you switch back to the previous Base URL, what happens?
  6. Is there any error thrown when you try to access Confluence via localhost?

When you say that "I cannot login to localhost anymore.", do you mean that you can reach the login page but there are errors or does it mean that you can not even reach this page?

Looking forward to your reply!
