Hi, everyone!

I've reinstalled(deleted and thne did fresh install) of confluence and connected it to the new-made SSMS database to assure the it wont rewrite the files in the existing database.

Then changed connection line in the confluence.cfg to the old database and there are no spaces\tables. It looks like new one.

Build versions of home directory and database are the same: 8401

Tried different things, but nothing helped this far - cant figure out what might be wrong.

Can import the logs, but its a lot there, maybe something in particular will be needed.

Any thoughts?

Hello there,

Happy to help find out what's going on here and get your Confluence site back online.

From what I understand, I think you're trying to migrate data from an existing Confluence site to a new SQL Server database. Is that right? Could you just clarify a few things with me?

  1. Is that correct that this was just a database migration? What database were you coming from originally? What is the version of SQL Server you are using now?
  2. You mentioned the Confluence version in the database and home directory are the same, so I understand that your fresh install of Confluence was the exact same version that you already had installed?

If you weren't looking to migrate the database, can you let me know if there was an issue with your Confluence site that you were trying to solve by re-installing Confluence?

In performing the migration, can you confirm you followed the exact steps required for a database migration? I'll simply outline those steps below, but please refer to the article for specific details.

  1. Create a full XML backup of your site data.
  2. Stop Confluence.
  3. Copy Confluence home directory as a precautionary measure.
  4. Backup your existing database, again, as a precautionary measure.
  5. Create a new database and user following the instructions for SQL Server setup. Note the required permissions:
    • Give this user full create, read and write permissions for the database tables. Confluence must be able to create its own schema.
  6. Install your fresh copy of Confluence, use Custom Installation. The home directory and database must be new here, or it won't work.
  7. Using the Confluence Setup Wizard, you'll point the installation to your new, completely empty database. On the Load Content step, you must import your XML backup at this point. This will load your Confluence data into your new SQL database.
  8. Copy contents of your attachments directory from your old Confluence home to the new one.
  9. Re-install any Marketplace apps, and check your settings (base URL, application links, etc.)

You mentioned that you changed the confluence.cfg.xml file to your new database, and there was no content there. However, a database migration shouldn't require that you change the database location in your config file, since you do this during the installation. Upon import of your XML backup, it should've brought over your tables.

Is it possible this wasn't completed yet? If you aren't trying to migrate to a new database, can you let me know what issue you were trying to solve?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Shannon
