What the heck does this mean? I accidentally tried to log on with a Google account instead of just my email, and it automatically created an account that I now can't delete. I don't have any paid subscription on this account or any other.

Hi @Nik ,

Yeah... this is not intuitive, as even with free subscriptions, you basically have 'billing administration,' but you can check the following: 👇

Option 1: Transfer Billing Responsibilities

If you want to keep the organization active but delete your personal account, you must assign a new billing administrator first.

  1. Add a New Admin: Log in to admin.atlassian.com/billing and navigate to Billing permissions (or Billing admins). Select Add new admin and enter the email address of the person taking over.

  2. Verify and Promote: The new contact must log in and select Make Primary to ensure they have full control.

  3. Remove Yourself: Once the new admin is active, you can be removed from the billing list, which will allow you to proceed with account deletion.

More info here: Understand billing administration / Remove billing admin

Option 2: Delete the Organization and Subscriptions

If the organization is no longer needed, you must remove all active entitlements before your account can be closed.

  1. Cancel Subscriptions: Go to Billing > Manage subscriptions at admin.atlassian.com and cancel every active product (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Loom).

  2. Delete the Site and Organization: Navigate to Products to delete the cloud site, then go to Settings > Organization details to select Delete organization.

  3. Wait for Deactivation: There is often a mandatory waiting period (ranging from 14 to 60 days) for data retention and final billing cycles to conclude before the "Delete Organization" button becomes active.

You can read more about that here: Deactivate a subscription

Basically, if you had a free site and cloud org, I'd probably say you can take a look at option #2 first. 👀

Once you clear this out, you can proceed with deleting your Atlassian account

Cheers,
Tobi
