Can I create a hot link to a network share in a JIRA comment?

Like I have a file folder somewhere I want the people looking at my story to be able to follow.

Something like

\\ServerName\filerootpath\fileSubPath\

It is possible, but keep in mind this will ONLY work on the same network as the network share. Also, by default it will ONLY work with Internet Explorer. There are extensions for Chrome and Firefox that will allow this, but IE is the only browser that enables the file protocol by default. The format for a file link is this ...

file://///path/to/your/files

Yes indeed you need five slashes there. That is not a typo. The first three are for the protocol file:///. The next two are for the unc path //path/to/your/files. See the below screenshot for how to do this.
