This dialog implies a Space can have a parent Space, implying the ability to nest Spaces in Confluence.

Anybody know if this is possible?

Hi @Matthew Brandabur,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

What the Copy screen is showing is that a page can have a parent, not that a space can have a parent. Nested spaces is not a thing in Confluence. According to this suggestion, CONFCLOUD-1095, it is not something that is being considered either.

Hi @Matthew Brandabur

No, you can not nest spaces.

That dialog asks which page in the space should be the parent for the page you are copying.

@Matthew Brandabur If you want it to appear to your users that you have nested spaces, you can add a smart link to the Overview page of the child space in the content tree of your parent space. See:

Edit: note that, when someone clicks the link, they will go to that other space—it will not appear within the content tree of the first space.

Actually, @Matthew Brandabur ... you can :)

Sort of... OK, it's a little hack of a concept but it would help you accomplish smth similar.

There are two methods I can think of now.

Method 1

Scroll Documents for Confluence by K15t works with a concept of a 'document' - which is a virtual representation of either the entire space.... or sections of a space. So you can have 2 or more scroll documents in a single space, each becoming a standalone unit of content you can work with - in terms of versioning (as in creating versions like 1.2, 1.3, 2.0 of your docs), localization, etc. All in a single space.

What's more you create page groups which would further help with fragmentizing/grouping of specific content.

Where it all comes together, is Scroll Viewport where you can work with the abovementioned scroll documents as independent units of content and create a site (independent of Confluence) that would achieve the desired outcome (nested spaces).

This is pro-grade content organization, I admit, but it works perfectly.

(I'm a user of these apps and this is the result)

Method 2

This method involves a little unorthodox use of Space Sync for Confluence app by Ricksoft.

The app does what is says - syncs pages. But it can do it over multiple spaces.

Say you have spaces A, B, C with your content. You can can push (sync) content from those three spaces into space D... Space D will become, de facto, a mother space nesting content from A, B, C.

You will be able to author content in A, B, C independently and use D as an output (for example, restricting it to viewing).

You can, of course, create D-only content.

(BTW, you can sync both ways with this app but I guess it's something you wanna do because 'single source of truth' :) )

I hope this might inspire you.
