Automatisation possible for lookup of "table value" based on selection of data in 2 other tables

tanja_wolff June 12, 2019

I have a template which contains 3 tables. The first 2 tables have 2 columns. The 1. column has tick boxes (=tasks "[]"), the 2nd column colours. Table 1 has colours red, yellow, white. Table 2 blue, green, black, Table 3 looks like a matrix and shows the resulting mix-colours for each colour combination eg yellow+blue=green.

When I create a new page I select in table1 and table2 a colour (tick in "[]"). Then I look at table3 presenting the mix-colours like a matrix, select the correct cell and type the resulting mix-colour down.

My question: Can this lookup be automated?

Hi Tanja,

There is the Table Transformer macro that has a lookup tool in the Table Filter and Charts app.

Could you attach some screenshots that describe your workflow in more details?

Hello Tanja and welcome to the Community!

If you’re wanting to automate the lookup and calculate/combined values of tables within Confluence out of the box, I would have to say that it’s not possible (out of the box). However, you do have options to extend the product. An option would be to explore creating a user macro which would allow you to accomplish this, more on user macros may be found at Writing User Macros.

Additionally, the marketplace may have some options available for you to use with your requirements. There are a few apps which may suit your needs which you may find within this preset search of Atlassian Marketplace | Tables.

Another option would be to include custom Javascript within Confluence which could add the functionality you need. This option may run into issues as your upgrade/migrate your instances, but it is something that could be done. More information on this can be found at How to use JavaScript in Confluence.

While not an exact answer on how to accomplish your goal, I do hope these references prove helpful in finding a solution which meets your requirements.

Hi Stephen,

thanks for your answer. It is certainly helpful! I am a user and have not enough knowledge to implement the suggested solutions. Do you have an idea how I could find an experienced confluence user who I could pay to write a macro or JavaScript for me?

Kind regards,

tanja

Hello Tanja,

If you don’t have the time or resources to take on this type of project then we would suggest reviewing Atlassian partners who are well versed in the Atlassian suite. Further information on partners may be found at Atlassian Partners. When navigating to that site select “Find a partner” to locate a partner near you.
