Automated status labels?

Maybe I'm asking for too much.

But is there a way to, let's say, have a content list consisting of status labels that are copied from other status labels?

Maybe this screenshot explains it better:

I have this HUGE document, with their own explanation and a status. However, I would like to have a sort of "roadmap" sort of thing on top, that shows each item of the list an it's status.

I would like to automate this in a way that I don't have to edit the label twice. Is this possible?

Maybe you can put the items with the status label in a header, and at the top of the page use the table of contents macro?

Just an idea...

Thank you Patrick! This sounds like something really interesting to try! I will see if I can apply during this week and let you know. Thanks!
