Atlassian Companion App license policy

Vinay Ravi January 23, 2019

Hi ,

We have up-graded Confluence version form 6.1.4 to 6.12.2. And we were using Arsenal lock-point plugin for easy document check in and check out.
Now with the new upgraded confluence version, we have edit in office which prompts us to download atlassian companion app for editing files. Can i get any answers on below queries.

1. Whether Atlassian Companion app is a Confluence or Atlassian Product.
2.What is the licence policy of this product.
3. If we do not have cenote lockpoint, will the documents not be locked when editing using atlassian companion app, and simultaneuosly users can edit files which results in clash.

Thanks in anticipation!

Regards,
Vinay R

Hi Vinay,

Writing from the manufacturer of Cenote Lockpoint:

My understanding is that the Atlassian Companion app is an Atlassian product used in conjunction with Confluence Server/Data Center and Confluence Cloud. I cannot speak to its license policy since I do not work for Atlassian, but I would be surprised if it were substantially different from Confluence itself.

In terms of document locking, to the best of my knowledge, Confluence does not provide this feature with the Companion or Edit in App and Atlassian is not currently planning to implement it (CONFSERVER-2841).

Lockpoint is fully compatible with the Companion and the new Edit in App experience (including the Attachment macro "Edit" buttons in the recently-released Confluence 6.14), so you can continue to receive locking protection with Lockpoint regardless of whether you use the old Edit in Office or the new Edit in App.

Note that Cenote Lockpoint is the same product as the old Arsenale Lockpoint, and all old licenses remain valid and have been transferred to Cenote. You can upgrade your system with your existing license to any version of Cenote Lockpoint released within your maintenance window (note that Confluence 6.12 was supported starting 2018-10-04). Maintenance on an Arsenale Lockpoint license can also be extended with a simple renewal (which will automatically show up as a Cenote Lockpoint license) so there is no need to purchase a new license.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment here (or get in touch with us at Cenote Support if you have private questions about your license).
