Application link not locating jira

I just installed confluence on the same box as my jira-qa instance. I am trying to make JIRA a trusted application. So when I use these instructions, I am receiving JIRA QA seems to be offline. The application link I am putting in is "https://jira-qa.mycompany.com" and when I do a wget or hit this url directly, it is available. Any ideas?
