I’m looking for a way to embed a countdown timer in an external Confluence page that counts down to a specific date.
Is there a Confluence macro that supports countdown timers that are visible on an external page without having to open it in Confluence? If not, are there any recommended plugins or workarounds that would allow me to embed a countdown timer using HTML or other methods on the page?
Hi @Mayra Tejeda,
As far as I know Confluence doesn't have a countdown macro; so you'll most likely need to search for a plugin on Atlassian Marketplace.
If you consider the option of using a plugin, our Great Gadgets app offers such macro, which is highly configurable.
But I'm not sure what do you mean by "external page without having to open it in Confluence". This is a macro for Confluence, so you will need to add it in a Confluence page.
Danut.
I wondered the same about the external page... and after your post, I wonder if @Mayra Tejeda may refer to a site generated by an app, like Scroll Viewport (which is independent of Confluence) or Refined and Spacecraft.
The thing is that with all those theme apps your mileage may vary when it comes to compatibility with specific macros and apps.
(gonna test it on my private site with Viewport:) )

Hello @Mayra Tejeda and welcome to the Community.
(Presumably, external = public facing (with anonymous access).
There seems to be a lot of apps like that.

You are correct with your assumption of external - public facing with anonymous access. I am looking to add a countdown on an external page and want to avoid this issue:
I'll check out some apps but was hoping there was a way to do it without one.

@Mayra Tejeda What you have on the screenshot is symptomatic for permission issues. This typically happens when the specific component siphons in content from another page (excerpt, page or even an image).
Also, some macros and apps that produce 'macro-like' page furniture have their own permission setups. And, last but not least, based on issues that emerged in Community, combining Anonymous access with Public links for specific pages may result in that Open in Confluence message.
Maybe there is a way to achieve the desired result via API (or Automation). There probably wouldn't be a timer but rather some sort of notification or page status change at a pre-set time before the event you're counting down to.
