Hi Atlassian Data Center Community! π
I'm excited to share a new feature we've been building β App Usage Insights for Confluence Data Center β and invite you to try it out and share your feedback.
App Usage Insights is a new capability in admin screen in Confluence Data Center that gives you visibility into which apps are being used in your instance, how often they're being called, and by how many users β all directly from the Confluence Admin UI.
We've been rolling out App Usage Insights in two phases:
REST API Usage (available in Confluence 9.2.20 and 10.2.11) β surfaces REST API call data per app directly in the Confluence Admin screen, giving admins a data-driven view of which apps are making calls and when.
Macro Usage (available in Confluence 9.2.22 and 10.2.14) β surfaces macro-level usage data in the Confluence Admin screen, showing which macros from third-party apps are in use, how many pages they appear on, and when those pages were last modified.
Today, Confluence admins face a significant challenge: they don't have clear visibility into how apps are actually used. This leads to:
No signals for performance issues β heavy or misbehaving apps are difficult to pinpoint without usage metrics.
Risk during Cloud migrations β without knowing which apps are actually in use, it's hard to decide what to take, replace, or retire.
Governance gaps β admins can't answer questions like "who is using this app, and how often?"
App Usage Insights gives admins the objective data they need to make confident decisions about app spend, performance, governance, and cloud migration readiness.
Go to Administration (βοΈ gear icon) β General Configuration
Navigate to Manage Apps
Look for the App Usage tab or section in the admin panel
You'll need System Administrator global permissions to access this screen.
For full documentation, see: View App Usage in Confluence Data Center
The App Usage screen in the Confluence Admin panel surfaces two types of data:
REST API Usage (Admin Screen β from 9.2.20 / 10.2.11)
For each app, the admin screen shows:
App name β the name of the installed app
Total usage β the total number of REST API calls made by the app
Last used β the date the app last made a REST API call
For each macro provided by a third-party app, the admin screen shows:
Macro name β the name of the macro
Number of pages β how many pages the macro is used on
Last modified β the last date a page using that macro was modified
For admins who use Portfolio Insights, richer app usage metrics are also surfaced there, including:
Total API call count β how many REST API calls the app has made
Active user count β users who have used the app in the last 30 days
Total user count β overall number of users associated with app activity
Top users β the users responsible for the majority (above 50%) of API calls
Percentage of calls from active users β what proportion of all REST API calls are from active users
This feature is in open beta and your feedback directly shapes what we build next. Specifically, we'd love to know:
Are the REST API/macro usage data useful to you as a starting point?
What other app usage metrics would help you make better decisions?
Are there specific workflows β renewals, migrations, performance reviews β where you'd want this data surfaced differently?
Please drop your thoughts in the comments below, or reach out to us directly. Every piece of feedback helps!
Thanks for being part of the Atlassian Community β we're excited to keep building this with you. π
