Adding and displaying labels in new Confluence UI and Navigation

A quick one on the topic of adding and viewing page labels in the new Confluence UI. Questions were asked, users got confused.

Previously

  • Regular pages
    In the View more, hit L on the keyboard for pages
  • Home/Root pages of a space
    Use the ... menu in the edit mode for home pages.

Now

Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL-OPTION-A in the EDIT mode (pages, home pages, live pages).

To display and add labels without entering the EDIT mode the shortuct is SHIFT-CTRL-I - this brings out page infor panel. You can also click the little i at the bottom right corner of a page.

However, at the time of writing, this does not display labels for the home page - so you can't use this method to add labels.

Thanks for most prompt response.
I am able to get the info box shown

However the info box  does not shows labels (sorry in Danish). I am pretty sure that the page contains labels.

@Troels Ladefoged

But that's the thing - the Labels section does not display on for the Home page info box.

Open the home page - in the edit mode and use the following keyboard shortcut

CTRL-OPTION-A on Mac, I believe CTRL-ALT-A on a Windows machine.

@Kristian Klima Super that works on my Windows machine :-)

- now I able to use labels again - thank you very much for your prompt, kind and most helpful assistance

Hey @Kristian Klima according to @Abby Crisp

We do not plan to deprecate the single-character shortcuts in the short term, and we'll continue supporting them — including keeping "L" for Labels, "T" for Attachments and "K" for Link to Content.

We added the new shortcuts (like Ctrl + Opt + A) to ensure these actions work consistently across different page modes and editing environments in Confluence. That said, we understand the value of familiar, quick-access keys and are committed to supporting both where it makes sense.

Did L start working for you again?

@Darryl Lee

Well, yes, L is working again... HOWEVER, there's still the pop up telling me it's about to change.

Also, labels are back on display at the bottom of the page.

(I would suspect myself of imagining things but there were people asking about 'where are my labels'. At this pace of changes, sanity is in doubt.)

Also, the info strip that I have on my private Confluence (bottom right corner, see the pix below) is missing on our corporate site (both have new layout and new navigation enabled).

I'm scheduled for a UX research call on Friday, will ask for details. Among other things :)

Edit: Again, at this pace, any 'how to article' ages faster than stock market snapshot news.

OK! I figured something out.

Labels were NEVER shown on "Home/Overview" pages. I tested my Sandbox (which I just reverted to the old nav) as well as Production (on new nav but NOT Live Docs Beta).

So that must explain why the Labels interface is completely different for Home/Overview pages vs regular pages:

And in fact, in both old and new (non Live Doc) nav, the L key doesn't work to add labels. You have to Edit page and then go to the [...] menu to add them. Cumbersome.

In contrast, for non-Home/Overview pages, hitting L (or the new key-combo/vulcan neck pinch for Live Doc beta testers),  jumps you down to the Labels section on the page:
