Hi CUG Members!
Welcome to this week’s edition of Weekly Wonder! Today, we’re diving into best practices for structuring meetings that effectively serve both new and advanced users of Atlassian products.
“How can we structure our upcoming meetings to ensure that we effectively cater to both new users and more advanced users of Atlassian products?”
Here are some effective strategies to consider when planning your upcoming meetings:
Begin by pinpointing the topics that resonate with your user group. Gather insights from past meetings and feedback from members to compile a list of relevant subjects. Aim to cover a spectrum of topics, from basic functionalities to advanced features across Atlassian products like Jira and Confluence.
Acknowledge that your audience will possess varying levels of expertise. Design sessions tailored to different skill levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced. For example, you might start with an introductory session on “Getting Started with Jira,” followed by more advanced topics like “Jira Automation” in subsequent meetings.
Outline a series of meetings where each session builds on the previous one. This approach helps participants recognize their progression and reinforces their learning. For instance, a series on Confluence could begin with “Basics of Confluence,” advance to “Creating Effective Documentation,” and conclude with “Advanced Collaboration Techniques.”
Engage your members with interactive activities. Encourage collaboration through group exercises, live demonstrations, or breakout sessions. Interactive learning not only solidifies knowledge but also fosters a sense of community among participants.
To extend the learning experience, create supplementary materials such as guides, cheat sheets, or video recordings of the sessions. Sharing these resources empowers attendees to revisit the content and reinforces their learning.
For example:
Atlassian ACE’s - Join free, user-led meet-ups hosted by the community, for the community!
Atlassian University - training courses and certifications for various Atlassian products.
Atlassian Team Playbook - resource that provides tools and exercises for team collaboration and improvement.
Jira Software Guide - A detailed guide to using Jira Software, including best practices and tips.
Confluence Documentation - Resources focused on using Confluence effectively for documentation and collaboration.
Encourage participants to share their experiences and insights related to the topics discussed in your CUG Space or channel. Utilize both areas to facilitate discussions, enhancing the learning experience and building a stronger community.
As members advance their skills, take the time to celebrate their achievements! Acknowledge milestones, such as completing a certification. This recognition fosters motivation and encourages continuous learning within your group.
By implementing these best practices, you can create a dynamic series of meetings that effectively cater to users of all skill levels. This approach not only enhances their understanding of Atlassian products but also strengthens the bonds within your user group.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! What topics are you considering for your next series, and how do you plan to cater to different skill levels? Share your ideas and experiences in the comments below!
