Next go round, can you look at the possibility to include tropical dry forest restoration?

This ecoystem is under threat because of the unfortunate combination of the strain they are under naturally and the human impact combined.  

These ecosystems are incredibly rich in biodiversity and have an incredibly high number of endemic species.  They are essential for the liveliehoods of the communities who live in and around them. Crucially, they are considered of high global biological and scientific importance.

Unfortunately, globally the it is considered that 93% of the tropical dry forests have been lost, mostly to agriculture and it is having a huge impact on the nauture, the local communities and the climate.

I was fortunate enough to join a restoration project in Colombia earlier this year.  I saw the good and bad. 

The communities are struggling with the impacts to the climate as a result of forest loss.  The dry periods are longer and dryer than before, there is loss of crops and cattle from drought.  The wet season hits harder than before, often washing so much of the dry soil away, there is mass erosion and flooding.  There are areas that have become desert now, where restoration efforts have failed.

But....Through community engagement, and the dedication of the team the corner is being turned.  There is more than 30 farms enrolled in the scheme, who all sign up to protect the existing forest on their land and dedicate patches for reforesting.  In return, they are supported with alternative ways to make income through sustainable agriculture practices, artisan products such as honey and tourism.  They have begun to see the positive effect and have embraced the changes.  Now they are all in it together and they are fighting for the forest that they rely on for the future of their community.

I was also lucky enough to see the endemic 'Titi' monkey, the critically endangered Cotton-top tamarin, only found wild in the tropical dry forests of northern Colombia. 

Scientific research, illegal pet trade and deforestation drove them to near extinction. They have a very complex social structure which means their reproduction rate is very slow but they are fascinating little primates.

I think we can all agree these little guys are worth saving...

Hmm.. Not sure if this is working fine for everyone now but for me it is still stuck.. 

and so far since 1 July not even one completion jumped in so far... so no idea what is wrong..

Anyway .. glad that overall is decreasing however officially 43434 left and 25 days left which mean that if this is real number (and all likes would not count) then would be nice if my account would work so that we can speed up things :)

Hey, @Melanie Dixon! Click on "Kudos" on top of the navigation bar, check "Challenges" and the "Likes 4 Trees" challenge. It should show how many trees you have planted. If you click on it, you should see how many trees have been already planted by the community 🌳🌲🌴

@Monique vdBit'd be great to get an update for all of us who are stuck at 1. I'm holding back my interactions for I don't want to waste them if they don't count. I was looking forward to this event so much but now I'm pretty stressed/disappointed. I don't care about the points and what have you - if you were to guarantee that it ultimately will count (read: trees will get planted for my interactions) I'd still click the hell out of this community. But I don't want to come here every day to probe if it's been fixed or not.
