The type of clone you do is based on the type of distributed version control system (DVCS) you are using for your repository. Bitbucket supports two different DVCS options: Git and Mercurial. Read more about both of them here: https://www.atlassian.com/dvcs/overview/dvcs-options-git-or-mercurial
