Unable to push changes - 403 forbidden. Has mercurial support been dropped?

Robc July 12, 2020

Hi,

I'm try to push changes and it turns out I had some old branches that hadn't been pushed.

I'm now using hg push --new-branches

I enter my password, it authenticates, but then gives http error: 403 midway through pushing the changes.

Any idea's what's causing this?

Thanks

Rob

Hi @Robc and welcome to the Community!

As part of the Bitbucket Cloud Mercurial deprecation, pushing to repositories has been disabled as of this month (July 2020).

There are more details here about the deprecation here: https://bitbucket.org/blog/sunsetting-mercurial-support-in-bitbucket

Thanks, would have been awesome to see a message in the bitbucket interface indicating this. I must have missed it.

is there any way to get it turned on for one last push? The tool I want to use to convert to git needs a  remote url and it seems the easiest option for converting. So I’d like to commit the last piece of work there in order to get the complete repo.

thanks Rob

Fuck this fucking company. I maintain Reddit's second largest API wrapper and now I have no way to publish my code.

@earth-tone you have other options. This article and its comments offer many ways for you to publish your code: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Bitbucket-articles/What-to-do-with-your-Mercurial-repos-when-Bitbucket-sunsets/ba-p/1155380

Saw this message now when browsing "you caught us doing some quick maintenance". I assume it has something to do with the issue I'm experiencing, except that it's been 8 hours.
