Pushing to Bitbucket works sometimes

Just as the title suggests, whenever I push to Bitbucket it either works or it doesn't.  And most of the time this takes a minute or two even if the push is really small.  After some research I thought it may have something to do with my internet firewall settings, so I added my version control application to the approved list of applications and still nothing.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
