Not able to get access to a repo though email invite for an existing Atlassian account

I am running into a strange Bitbucket Cloud / Atlassian invitation issue and wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Scenario:

  • I have an existing Atlassian account tied to my organization email.
  • A repository/workspace owner is trying to grant me access to a Bitbucket repository by sending an invite.
  • The invite remains in “Invite Pending” status indefinitely.
  • No invitation email is ever received.

A few weeks ago we were troubleshooting this issue and, just to get started with work, I temporarily switched to a personal Google-based Atlassian account. That worked initially.

However, the same pattern appeared again:

  • If the email/account is brand new to Atlassian, the first invite works.
  • Once the Atlassian account already exists, future invitations after removing/re-adding access stop working.
  • The invite stays pending and no email is delivered.

Additional observations:

  • This appears related to existing Atlassian accounts rather than brand new accounts.
  • Multiple email addresses tested.
  • Spam/Junk folders checked.
  • Browser/incognito tests performed.
  • Repository owner confirms the invitation is still in pending status.

At this point it feels like:

  • a stale invitation issue,
  • Atlassian identity linkage issue,
  • or a backend issue related to inviting existing Atlassian accounts to Bitbucket repositories/workspaces.

Has anyone seen this before or found a resolution?

Hi @Kishore Bharathi 

I've just re-activated your account, it was marked DORMANT due to the following cleanup operation:

I have also checked your email address and can see that you've disabled product notifications (which includes invitations) - hence why you've not been able to receive these.
To resolve this:

  • In order to receive invitations again, you will need to navigate to your Atlassian account’s email preference center and tick the Product invitations option
  • Once complete - an admin will need to click Cancel invitation on each user group you were invited to, to completely remove it from processing for all groups, then click Add Members in the top-right and insert your email address again to properly resend the invitation
