Is it possible to connect Bitbucket Cloud to self-hosted Jira server that is behind a VPN?

Our current setup is:

  • We have a self-hosted Jira server, that is only accessible internally within a VPN.
  • We have a self-hosted Bitbucket Server.
  • We have connected Jira to Bitbucket, to allow (for example) transitioning Jira issues through Git commit messages.

We are considering using Bitbucket Cloud instead of self-hosted Bitbucket Server. My question is, will it still be possible to Bitbucket Cloud to our Jira server, considering that it's behind a VPN and inaccessible via a public URL?

This page:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucket/connect-bitbucket-cloud-to-jira-software-server-814208991.html

says:

"When you link an account using the DVCS Connector, the connector adds a post-commit web hook to all the repositories owned by the account in Bitbucket Cloud."

... which makes me think that it's not going to work, because the Bitbucket web hook will need access to the Jira server. The other possibility is that Jira goes off to fetch changes from Bitbucket Cloud on a regular schedule, but it sounds like that's not work it works.

@Bernard Mason  How did you resolve this? Is there a way to make those bitbucket webhooks work with internal JIRA server?

Thanks

Paresh

No, I didn't get an answer to this, and we never found a solution.
