I have created an app password in Bitbucket but I don’t know how to use it. I have looked at a lot of Atlassian documentation about this but I don’t understand the jargon. Please could someone explain in plain English how I should log in to Bitbucket in future?
I use Ubuntu 20.04 and also MacOS.
Hi @susanpyne1 ,
Bitbucket app password should be used when you're connecting your Git client to your repository, or when you're using Git commands in the terminal.
For logging to the website to browse the repo, you should use your standard Atlassian account password.
Let me know if this helps,

Thank you - I had misunderstood. Could you give an example of how to use an app password in a terminal command so I can see the format?
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
For example, to do a "git clone" command :
git clone https://alexis@bitbucket.org/mycompany/repo.git
This would trigger a prompt for your password : this is where you can paste your app password.
